Before I launch into my next thoroughly essential subject — most likely free fonts — I want to post a map of Texas that illustrates the counties affected by Hurricane Harvey. It’s not only Houston, everybody. There are 53 counties in Texas screaming for help, and they’re all located along the densely-populated southeast coast. If you want to help but don’t know how, you might consider donations to any of these fine organizations that actually pledge to deliver every dime they collect to needy, dripping Texans.

However please DO NOT send Donald Trump for a third hollow try at empathy and leadership. He was in Houston again yesterday, with Hurricane Barbie in tow, visiting a storm shelter packed with traumatized Texas families who have temporarily — or maybe permanently — lost their homes, all their possessions and their beloved pets. Trump’s message to them, therefore, was seriously off the mark when he exclaimed, “Things are working out well!” and that the recovery effort has been “such a wonderful thing.” As he exited, Trump congratulated FEMA and shouted “have a great time!”
Even when this asshole tries to be normal HE STILL FUCKS UP.
I don’t think I’ll include an official Kvetch Report in this post because NOTHING EVER CHANGES. I always feel like crap and sometimes I just get sick of writing about my: 1) intense heel pain from diabetic neuropathy and bleeding blisters; 2) uncontrollable hand tremors and muscle spasms; 3) knee pain; and 4) burning skin on the back of both thighs.
Sam and I are in the midst of changing the way I receive health care because I can no longer get in the car and go to the doctor like a normal human being. I actually haven’t been able to do that for maybe six years or more. Eventually I “graduated” to a bariatric wheelchair and I started riding Mesquite’s senior citizen transit bus with a wheelchair elevator for quarterly doctor visits. This was never comfortable or easy for me; you wouldn’t believe how they harnessed me to the floor of the bus with straps and buckles for a 90-second drive to the doctor’s office! It doesn’t matter any more, though, because it’s time for another graduation. The Mesquite senior citizen transit bus requires a two-week advance reservation … and I frequently can’t wait two weeks to see a doctor. I need to be seen at home now.
So here’s how it’s supposed to work: 1) my primary care physician will put in a recommendation for me to be seen by a visiting nurse; 2) the visiting nurse will recommend a permanent visiting doctor; and 3) Medicare will pick up the tab. Personally, I would like an automatic quarterly visit plus access to additional medical care whenever I feel especially miserable, such as the fever and urinary tract infection — E. coli! — I had during the second half of August. Sam had to jump through way too many hoops to get me an antibiotic without “being seen” by my doctor.
