My favorite free fonts website is gone.

Hello and hi-de-ho from my house to yours! It’s 7:45 p.m. on a muggy Thursday night in Texas, Sam is attending the second (and final) session of a pleasant retirement planning seminar — he actually knows enough about investing to teach a course like this! — and I’m at home enjoying a bag of Mountain House freeze-dried Spaghetti with Meat Sauce for senior citizens who can’t stand up any more to cook things. When I finish my sack of spaghetti I’ll probably get back to my other passion … designing mugs, greeting cards, iPhone cases and miscellaneous whatnots for my own shop on Zazzle. By the way, if you’ve never visited The Howdygram Store you’re missing a terrific shopping experience. Thank you.

There were a couple of excellent deliveries yesterday from Wal-Mart … two jars of Smucker’s sugar-free hot fudge and a squeezy bottle of sugar-free chocolate syrup so I can make chocolate milk. (Sam buys me a half-gallon of plain almond milk every now and then.) Yes, diabetics such as yours truly definitely have a sweet tooth.
A third Wal-Mart delivery arrived this morning … an attractive new piece of essential furniture that Sam and I can hustle from room-to-room as needed. For the last several months I’ve been quite open about my need for something like this, because I struggle constantly with an over-active bladder and crippling mobility issues that make it almost impossible to get to a bathroom in time. And if that’s not bad enough, my primary care physician wants me to start taking Lasix again, a high-powered diuretic that will help me get rid of at least 100 pounds of water weight. Without my own portable commode that would be a FUCKING DISASTER.

Show of hands if you noticed that I’m using a brand new color for my Howdygram paragraphs. This is really yooge, extremely entertaining and I’m enjoying myself bigly. How about you?

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! In my heart of hearts I always knew that my favorite free fonts website, iFonts.xyz, which is based somewhere in the jungles of Viet Nam, eventually would be shut down for giving away other people’s intellectual and artistic property. These weren’t just ordinary fonts … they were complete sets with dozens of styles, dingbats, swashes, ornaments, Open Type features and so on, being sold on legitimate websites in the United States for substantial money. For instance, one of the Howdygram’s freebies today is “Latina” with 22 unique styles. iFonts.xyz offered it two days ago as a free download while MyFonts.com is selling it for $279.30 (marked down from $399). Although I’m heartbroken that iFonts.xyz bit the dust (it’s been offline since early yesterday morning), I understand why it happened. I’m just shocked that it took this long to shut ’em down!

In any event, here are today’s free fonts. In addition to “Latina” we’ve also got a cute casual script (“Miss Summer”) with a coordinating sans serif font, an elegant traditional script (“Bluebell”) in six weights, “Cubicoola” and “Shining Night,” a layering font with dots. I LOVE DOTS! I’ll include download links after the graphic so you can add these to your personal collection.

This morning I also snagged one dozen high-resolution digital background patterns — AND THEY'RE SEAMLESS! — from DesignCuts.com. For free. If you want the entire collection please send me an email, okay?

We’re having a blistering hot afternoon here. This doesn’t really mean much to me, of course, being an old coot with mobility issues who never leaves the house, but at 5:15 p.m. in north Texas it’s 95° outside with 58% humidity … and that’s too fucking hot and swampy for ANYBODY! Sam doesn’t even want to sit on the patio, and he always wants to sit on the patio. Instead he’s half-unconscious on the sofa in the family room watching one of our favorite “sleeping” movies — i.e., nice quiet films that make a perfect nap-time backdrop — Madame Curie (1943) starring Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon. However please note that the REAL Curies were goony as hell and looked anothing whatsover like Garson and Pidgeon, as pictured below during a scene where Marie admits she has skin cancer. Apparently discovering radium meant she was fondling radioactive crud.
Thank you for reading this. Have a pleasant evening!
