Sam is living it up tonight at Universal Citywalk in Hollywood. Woo-hoo!

Happy Saturday morning to you and yours from the lonely old lady at Howdygram headquarters. Sam is in southern California visiting his friends and relatives and I’m holding down the fort with a warm, flat can of Diet Cherry 7-Up leftover from last night. It’s 10:45 a.m.

Believe it or not I think Sam woke me up today from 1,500 miles away. He sent me a text message that “pinged” my phone at 7 a.m. while I was asleep. Not knowing why I opened my eyes, I stretched, turned on TCM and immediately got sucked into the last 60 minutes of The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946) starring Lana Turner and John Garfield. I had no clue that Sam sent me a three-word text message — “Are you awake?”— until three hours later. (I’m still getting used to my iPhone. No kidding, it never occurred to me to check for a new text message!)
At any rate, I’ve relocated to my desk in the study now and I’m enjoying a Saturday morning power breakfast of scrambled Wal-Mart pretzel rods and the aforementioned can of warm Diet Cherry 7-Up. Jealous?

Tonight I’ve got four seriously terrific free fonts for you, although “Laski Sans” is far more than just a free font ... it’s TWENTY free fonts! You get nine different weights with italics for each plus a stencil style with italics. And they all include small caps, oldstyle numerals, fractions and an excellent ampersand. (I’m addicted to excellent ampersands!) You also may be interested to know that “Zimbra” actually looks like a zebra print at larger point sizes. I’ll include download links after the graphic.

Sam is out on the town tonight in Hollywood! He decided to hop the free tram from his hotel to Universal Citywalk (pictured below) to walk around, stare at tourists, grab a beer and maybe go to a movie.
So which movie did he see? Sully starring Tom Hanks for seventeen bucks in a fancy-ass theater with reclining seats. That’s a hell of a lot of money to spend for a semi-boring film ... and you already know the ending! Sam called with his critique as soon as he walked out of the theater. Right now he’s still at Citywalk waiting for the tram to take him back to his hotel, and I’m here in north Texas waiting for thunderstorms.

“BOOMERS” ARE ON THE WAY. You know, thunderstorms! Unfortunately, they’re not very big and there’s still a very good chance they’ll miss us completely because those lying sacks of poo at Weather.com NEVER GET IT RIGHT.

A QUICK RECAP OF TONIGHT’S DINNER. I had a bag of freeze-dried Mountain House Biscuits & Gravy for senior citizens, three pretzel rods, a handful of Russell Stover sugar-free blueberry bites and a can of Diet Cherry 7-Up. I’m still hungry.

ACTIVITIES STILL AHEAD ... I want to watch TV and take a nap, probably at the same time. And I need to do this SOON because I’m in serious pain as I write this post and need to recline immediately. This time it’s the skin on the back of my thighs that’s giving me all this grief ... a combination of leaking pressure sores, blood blisters and diabetic neuropathy. I’m fucking miserable. Thank you for understanding if I just sign off and take a break.
