Free fonts, Chinese food, Rootin’-Tootin’ Sam and senior citizen kissing.

It’s 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening and Sam is on his way home from Love Field after spending four days in Seattle. Love Field is our closest airport, the smallish one with a shitload of gates for Southwest Airlines and a few sprinkled in for Virgin America and Delta. Love Field has valet parking, nice food options, and used to be the home of cheap flights until about six months ago, at which time Southwest decided to be a lot of greedy jerks and jacked up their rates. (A lot.)
I can’t wait to see Sam for three jumbo reasons: 1) I miss him; 2) my back itches; and 3) I want to order dinner from King China, which is something I can only do when Sam’s home due to me being too handicapped to answer the front door or carry my own goddamn dumplings. Tonight’s dinner will eventually include Steamed Pot Stickers, Shrimp Toast, Szechwan Eggplant in Garlic Sauce Extra Spicy, Jalapeño Shrimp, Chicken Fried Rice (for Sam), a bunch of steamed white rice, one container of hot chili sauce and Three Free Egg Rolls with Free Sauce. I get at least four meals from all this. FOUR MEALS! Wow!

I am sad to report the passing of beloved “60 Minutes” journalist Morley Safer, 84, who died of pneumonia yesterday at home in Manhattan. Ironically, he just retired a week ago due to declining health. No shit, Morley.
Last Wednesday in his retirement statement, Safer said: “It’s been a wonderful run, but the time has come to say goodbye to all of my friends at CBS and the dozens of people who kept me on the air. But most of all, I thank the millions of people who have been loyal to our broadcast.”

Morley Safer had been a regular on “60 Minutes” since 1970. That’s probably longer than most Americans have even been alive. Oy.

So ... let’s turn to something a little more cheerful, shall we? Here’s a brand new load of GORGEOUS FREE FONTS ... even though I actually paid real dough for one of them — “LiebeRuth” — because the free version I downloaded from BeFonts.com a few months ago never worked out very well. For instance, I installed all four weights on my Mac — light, regular, medium and bold — but only one weight (bold) ever showed up in my font menus. Therefore, because I adore “LiebeRuth” and use it all the time I decided to invest thirty bucks in the legitimate version from MyFonts.com. And I’m glad I did, because now I can finally access all four weights and I’m so happy I could slap somebody’s grandmother.

Please enjoy. Download links appear after the graphic.

And of course I also decided to blow a little money on new digital artwork, too, this time from CreativeMarket. I got myself a collection of 50 black & white editable seamless patterns (Adobe Illustrator files) and 30 editable seamless lace borders. Oy, people, these are all FANTASTIC!

Let’s all take a moment to wish happy 70th birthday to Cher. Holy crap, she’s 70?! Some of you may not remember (or never really knew) how adorable she was in the 1960s, so here’s a “throwback” photo for you. At the time she was a media sensation with a bunch of very big #1 hit records and a TV variety show with her weird first husband, Sonny Bono.

I think I’ll publish this post now so I can take a nice afternoon nap and watch one or two of my favorite “sleeping” movies. I have a William Powell craving today. (I should have posted this last night but I got carried away welcoming Sam home from Seattle. This involved a lot of senior citizen kissing.)
